Size Candy Christmas Tree
Make a Real Life Candy Christmas Tree! - Learn these quick, easy, and
fairly inexpensive crafts that a family can easily make together - but be
careful you don’t demolish the candy before you are finished! You can use your
imagination here and make lovely things happen. I’ve found this project
to be especially wonderful when young children are in the home and you don’t
want to have your beautiful ornaments ruined, or in the lobby of a busy office
building where people can stop and have a quick little chocolate pick-me-up
(Just don’t forget to leave a sign saying it’s OK to eat the candy!)
Hershey’s Kisses Garland
For those who are true chocolate lovers, our Hershey’s
kisses garland is an excellent way to celebrate the holiday season. And, with
the invention of different saran wrap colors, your garland can be made in a
variety of fun colors!
Supplies Needed:
Saran Wrap: Clear or colored – either will work
Curling ribbon : in coordinating colors
Hershey’s Kisses: plain or colored (other candies will work
as well)
Scissors
Step 1: Find a place. Garland is the long shiny stuff
that is used to decorate trees, mantles, banisters, etc. for the holidays. In
order to make your garland, you will need a place where you can spread out your
saran wrap into a long strip – the wider the space the better. We recommend a
large kitchen table, counter top, or the floor of your living room, etc.
Step 2: Prep. work. First, lay out a long strip of saran
wrap on a level surface. DO NOT cut the saran wrap. If you would like your
garland to be longer than the strip laid out, pull out another long strip of
saran wrap when you are done with steps 3-5 and repeat the process again. Next,
cut several pieces of curling ribbon about 6 – 8 inches long.
Step 3: Organize Kisses. Take your Hershey’s
kisses and lay them 2 at – a – time, on the saran wrap about 2-3 inches
apart on the inner most edge of the saran wrap.
Step 4: Wrap. Starting at one end, roll the
Hershey’s kisses in the Saran Wrap and continue until all of the Hershey’s
kisses have been rolled into one big snake-like piece of saran wrap.
Step 5: Tie. Take your pieces of curling ribbon. Tie end
of the long roll of Saran Wrap with a piece of curling ribbon using a granny
knot. Then tie knots with the rest of your ribbon in between each set of Hershey’s
Kisses to separate them. Once you are done, take your scissors and curl the
curling ribbon.
Step 6: Repeat if desired. Once you are done rolling and
tying, you are done with your section of Saran Wrap. If you would like your
garland to be longer, just pull more saran wrap out and lay it on your flat
surface again and repeat steps 1-5. Your garland can be as long or as short as
you want it to be. If you accidentally cut your saran wrap too short that’s
ok. Just be sure to tie your ends together with another piece of curling ribbon.
This garland can be used for: Decorating Trees,
banisters, mantles, doors, offices, desks, children’s rooms, etc.
We’ve also seen the same concept used to make edible leis
to be worn around the neck as a necklace.
Candy Christmas Ornaments:
To create your ornaments, choose a candy that has
coordinating colors to your Hershey’s Kiss garland. In our picture we choose
milk chocolate and mint Lindor Lindt Chocolate Truffles because we liked the
ball shapes.
Cut several pieces of ribbon (we chose white) about 3-5
inches long. Next, hot glue the ribbon to the wrapper end of the chocolates (don’t
put the glue on the chocolate portions - they will melt!) To make a loop. Wait
for the glue to harden, then decorate as usual.
Any candy will work, so don’t be afraid to get creative!
Include candy canes, home made gingerbread men, and anything
else your heart desires to make a Christmas tree that truly is good enough to
eat!!
